Get Rid of Old Equipment


As technology quickly advances, your network equipment also needs to evolve as well. If the equipment is up to date with the latest in technology, a firmware update or change in configuration settings will help improve the speed.

If the equipment is old or made of low-quality, it will need a replacement. Replacements are rather inexpensive when considering the increased productivity and decrease in slow connection.

With an old router, it will not be able to handle the number of connected devices that are included in the network. If your router is more than three years old, it may be the right time to upgrade. If you find yourself frequently rebooting the router, it is another sign that you need an upgrade.

The wireless portion of the network is just one of the many factors that will affect the speed. The faster the processor is, the less time information needs to send through the overall network. A router should support the latest standards in wireless along with a good processor. This should easily handle the existing devices you use.

One way to avoid a slow network is to determine the request and response time. To achieve this, open the browser and send a request to the server and network that hosts the application. Once the server sends back data, measure how long it takes for the three-way connection of SYN/SYN-ACK/ACK to occur.

Proactive Monitoring


There are plenty of performance management tools that allow you to monitor the network. Make a daily comparison by comparing the performance with baselines every day to see how it measures. Open source free software will keep latency in check as packets are the most reliable method to analyse the traffic that goes through your network.
